Beware - indoor pollution

Windmill Baby say no to toxins

Thinking clean? may we think again?

You want to eat healthy, breathe healthy and live healthy -  then why not apply the same philosophy you do on the inside of your body, to the outside?

The Environment Protection Agency estimates that indoor pollution is 2-5x higher than outdoor pollution, contributing to an alarming rise in asthma, persistent allergies, infertility, cancer, neurotoxicity and other endocrinological diseases linked to toxic chemicals which are present in our homes.

The sad part is that these toxic chemicals have become a part of our everyday life...a part of our cleaning routine!

Is too little too much?

Manufacturing companies are of the opinion that in small amounts these toxic ingredients aren’t likely to be a problem - but when we’re exposed to them routinely, and in combinations that haven’t been studied, it’s impossible to accurately gauge the risks.

The EPA indicates that, despite the health concerns, cleaning product labels often do not give consumers enough information about their ingredients to allow people to make informed decisions on which ones are safer and which ones might harm their health.

Why the fuss?

The EWG suggests that children are more vulnerable to the effects of these chemicals than adults. Infants and children often have the highest exposures because of their activities (hand-to-mouth play on the floor) and physiology (higher breathing rates); this exposure has been associated with endocrine disruption and impaired neurodevelopment in children. In addition to this, children have narrower airways than adults. Thus, irritation caused by air pollution that would produce only a slight response in an adult can result in potentially significant obstruction in the airways of a young child.

Studies have shown that infants exposed in the womb to cleaning products used by their mothers may suffer lower birth weight, lower IQ, and wheezing and respiratory symptoms that may persist throughout childhood.
